Welcome to the BSc Computer Science suite of degrees in the School of Computing, Science and Engineering at the University of Salford.

We run a set of three BSc (and three MSc degrees), which are currently BCS accredited. Although you will have chosen one of these undergraduate degrees on your UCAS form, we recognise the value of allowing you to revisit this choice at several places during your study. There are many ways in which you can work in the field of "Computing" and it may not be until you have experienced some parts of the course that you are able to make a real decision about how you would like your career to develop, for example:

So our approach is to allow you to defer some choice about how you want to study until you have tried all the first year modules and know what you enjoy doing.

The courses all combine practical skills (such as Java programming, network administration, content management, databases, ...) with a theoretical framework into how these things work and why they are the way they are. We believe this combination is very important to making our graduates employable and with enough adaptability to cope with whatever happens in the field of computing over the next forty years (you can be sure it will be very different from anything that happened in the last forty, and you will need a lot of adaptability to keep up!)
